If you are not familiar with a tracheotomy, it is a surgical procedure to create a hole through a patient's neck that goes into their throat (or trachea). This is done to restore breathing when the typical airway is impaired or disrupted, and it can assist with swallowing, suctioning and speech. We've administered tracheotomy care in Maryland for many different causes, including airway obstructions, severe respiratory distress and oral cancer.
